ELECTRICAL, CONTROL & INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEERING PLACEMENT - SUMMER 2017 15/02/2017



First Hydro Company, based in Llanberis, North Wales, is looking for a student or a graduate of an Engineering related degree for a summer placement within their Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

First Hydro Company, which is owned by ENGIE and Mitsui & Co. is one of the UK's most dynamic electricity generators responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in North Wales.

ABOUT THE PLACEMENT

Over the course of this 10-week placement you will work as part of the Engineering team and will undertake project work and become familiar with the operations of the Power Plant. Project work will be regarding a multi discipline assessment of the condition and risk of failure of key plant areas, combined with an assessment and review of any further potential condition monitoring improvements. You will gain experience on key plant items such as generators, transformers and switchgear, as well as the control and protection equipment required to keep such plant safe and reliable.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Student (2nd year and above) or a graduate of an Engineering related degree or similar
* An understanding of the key components within a hydro power station
* Good IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
* Good communicator and team worker

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

By the end of this placement you will have assisted the Engineering team and completed a documented formal review on the key risks to extending operational life of key components in a pumped storage plant whilst maintaining existing plant availability and reliability.

IT ENGINEERING GRADUATE PLACEMENT - SUMMER 2017 15/02/2017



First Hydro Company, based in Llanberis, Gwynedd, is looking for a student or a graduate of an IT related degree for a summer placement within their IT department.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

First Hydro Company, which is owned by ENGIE and Mitsui & Co. is one of the UK's most dynamic electricity generators responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in North Wales.

ABOUT THE PLACEMENT

Over the course of this 10 week placement you will work as part of IT team and will undertake project work and become familiar with the operations of the Power Plant. The project work will focus upon developing Internet applications to enhance the existing business processes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Student (2nd year and above) or a graduate of IT related degree or similar
* Good IT skills, including knowledge of SQL, HTML coding and programming principles
* Good communicator and team worker

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

By the end of this placement you will have helped develop Intranet applications and gained a useful insight into the operation of an industrial IT department.

OPERATIONS GRADUATE PLACEMENT - SUMMER 2017 15/02/2017



First Hydro Company, based in Llanberis, Gwynedd, is looking for a student or a graduate of an Engineering related degree for a summer placement within their Operations department.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

First Hydro Company, which is owned by ENGIE and Mitsui & Co. is one of the UK's most dynamic electricity generators responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in North Wales.

ABOUT THE PLACEMENT

Over the course of this 10 week placement you will work as part of the Operations Shift Team and will undertake both project work and become familiar with the operations of the Power Plant. Project work will focus on:-

(i)Improving the type, visibility and usefulness of data presented to Operators at both the Dinorwig and primarily at Ffestiniog Power Station Control Rooms allowing them to safely and effectively operate the plant;

(ii)Assist in a process of ensuring that plant nomenclature and labelling at Dinorwig Power Station is clear and up to date;

(iii) Assist with energy efficiency projects/scheme review.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Student (2nd year and above) or a graduate of Engineering related degree or similar
* Good IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
* Good communicator and team worker

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

By the end of this placement you will have assisted in improving data made available to Control Room and Plant Operators at both sites and will have gained valuable experience of putting your degree skills into practice.

CRAFT APPRENTICESHIP - POWER GENERATION 15/02/2017

As an apprentice with a global energy company, you will develop the core skills and knowledge required for a successful career with the power industry.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Our apprenticeship programme is designed for individuals with a strong interest in working in engineering and who want to pursue a career in the power industry. Applicants will need four GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C or above, including Maths, English and Science, and should be focused, highly motivated and committed to embark upon this programme.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

Our apprenticeship scheme is a four year programme, which starts in September each year. It combines academic and technical skills training with work based learning and assessment, which includes:

WORK PLACEMENTS - apprentices develop their knowledge and gain valuable work experience during structured work placements over the course of the programme.

TECHNICAL TRAINING - in either mechanical or electrical control and instrumentation disciplines, delivered by dedicated providers and experienced professionals.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS - you will have the opportunity to work towards a BTEC National Certificate and an NVQ Level 3 qualification in your related discipline.

Successful applicants need to be flexible, living away from home for periods of the scheme, but in return you will receive an annual salary, support with travel and accommodation, real and meaningful work experience, professional development and academic qualifications.
